The movement for equality and justice must include representation at all levels of policy-making throughout the country. We may be a “minority” but we cannot act like a minority. To achieve true social equality and justice, it is essential that minorities are encouraged, groomed and supported to take leadership and policy-making roles in every city - big and small - throughout the United States of America. True change comes from policy; we need people that care about how policies affect our communities to be part of the solution. We need both local and national government leaders that speak to the issues that matter to us!
From Belize Central America and a first generation immigrant family, I am the first Afro-Latina to run for City Council in Montebello. My election to the council will represent a truly diverse and dynamic council, but to do this, I need your help. Your donation helps us to communicate our message to the community of Montebello and will be used for mailers, lawn signs, banners and other marketing materials that will help to get me elected. Every vote counts and every dollar counts in making it happen.
This has been a challenging year for our country and the entire world. Pressure makes diamonds and flowers bloom from mud. It is during these challenging times that we are able to look within each other and ourselves for strength. I am competent, courageous and capable, therefore it is my duty to step up and lead.
